What am I actually covered for if my luggage is delayed?

If your luggage or personal effects are delayed or misdirected by a carrier you have provision to claim for the reasonable purchases of essential items that you may need to purchase.

What is considered ‘essential’ items?

Essential items include:

  • Toothbrush and other toiletries
  • Clothing (undergarments if appropriate)
  • Food or items for children that are considered important or essential

How much can I claim on if my luggage is cancelled?

Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus and Frequent Travellers Savers policies come with coverage for the Delay of Luggage and Personal Effects.

The maximum amount paid is $500* for a SINGLE person policy. On a DUO policy the delay of luggage coverage is also $500 for each person. Our FAMILY policies pool the benefits for delay of luggage making the total $500.

What can’t I claim on if my luggage is delayed?

Delay of Luggage and Personal Effects do not cover every situation.

  • If your luggage is delayed for less than 12 hours
  • If you are claiming for someone else not insured on the policy
  • If your luggage was delayed by another mode of transport not listed or mentioned in the PDS
  • If you have not notified your travel insurance provider of your Delay of Luggage and Personal Effects

Do I need a police report or letter from the carrier if my luggage is delayed?

You will need to provide proof of the delay by your aircraft carrier. You do not need to provide a police report unless there is reasonable cause to provide such a report.

Do I have to pay extra for Delay of Luggage and Personal Effects coverage?

You do not need to pay an extra premium for cover for delay of luggage and personal effects. You will need to purchase a Comprehensive, Snow Sports or Frequent Travellers Savers policy to have provision for the delay of luggage and personal effects.
