A recent survey by travel website Skyscanner.com revealed that Aussie travellers are less than superlative gift-buyers.
The Skyscanner poll revealed that almost one in four Australians named tacky souvenirs as the most disappointing gifts they had received from friends and family returning from overseas.
Cheap clothing and T-shirts with messages were among the least loved gifts.
The top 10 unwanted holidays gifts are:
2. A humorous T-shirt
3. Cheap jewellery
4. Key rings
8. Fake DVD's
9. A local drink
10. Airline merchandise toy
The poll discovered that half of recipients kept their unwanted gifts, unwilling to hurt the giver's feelings. A further one in five gave the gifts away to someone else.
Perhaps not surprisingly, one-eighth of recipients simply threw them away.
Skyscanner's Dave Boyte warned Australians not to buy cliched souvenirs.
He pointed out that unwanted souvenirs were likely to end up as firewood or a spare work T-shirt around the house.
Or even worse, re-gifted back to you.
