Pre-existing Medical Conditions FAQs

  1. Can I get a policy that covers me for the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions that are not listed?

    We CANNOT cover Pre-Existing Medical Conditions that are NOT on our list of Automatically covered Pre-Existing Medical Conditions.

    Please contact our affiliate Aussie Travel Cover* on 02 9998 7854, they may be able to take you through a medical assessment over the phone and create a travel insurance policy for your specific condition.

    Please note:

    1) These policies can ONLY be done on over the phone.

    2) Medical assessments can ONLY be done by the person requiring the insurance or for their dependent.

    3) They will need your medical history detailing the condition that you have and the medication you are on.

  2. Do I have a Pre-Existing Medical Condition?

    Please consider your medical history carefully.  This includes any condition at any time in your entire life that you (including your dependants travelling with you) have:

    • been diagnosed with, or
    • taken or take medication for, or
    • seen a medical practitioner (GP, physiotherapist, nutritionist, etc.), or
    • had an operation/procedure, or
    • had a test for (xray, blood test, scan, etc.), or
    • received or currently receive any form of treatment.

    Travel insurance policies provide cover for unexpected sudden illnesses or injuries. Our travel insurance includes cover for:

    • 43 Pre-existing Medical Conditions;
    • but only if you have not been hospitalised for that condition in the past 24 months; and
    • your medications for the condition have remained unchanged for the past 6 months.

    No, you don't need to declare your Pre-Existing Medical Condition/s to us. We have a list of Pre-Existing Medical Conditions that we do cover, and anything NOT on that list is excluded from cover. Please refer to our PDS for more information on Pre-existing Medical Conditions.

  4. I have a Pre-Existing Medical Condition, where can I declare it?

    To make things fast and simple, we don't need you to declare your Pre-Existing Medical Condition/s to us. We have a list of Pre-Existing Medical Conditions that we cover and anything NOT on that list is NOT covered. For more information on Pre-existing Medical Conditions refer to our PDS.

    If you would like to be covered for your Pre-Existing Medical Condition/s which are NOT on our list, please contact our affiliate Aussie Travel Cover* on 02 9998 7854. They can take you through a medical assessment over the phone and may be able to provide a tailored Travel Insurance policy for your specific condition.

  6. Is Pregnancy a Pre-Existing Medical Condition?

    Yes, for the purposes of travel insurance, pregnancy is a Pre-Existing Medical Condition.

    You are covered for unexpected serious complications of Pregnancy and childbirth that occur:

    • Up to the 23rd week of pregnancy if you are pregnant with a single child; or
    • Up to the 19th week of pregnancy if you are pregnant with twins or multiple children.

    Cover is subject to the applicable terms and conditions, exclusions and limitations of the policy.

  7. Is mental illness covered?

    Mental illness (including depression, anxiety, stress, mental or nervous conditions) suffered by you, a relative or another person is covered ONLY if:
    o a mental illness diagnosis has been made by a medical practitioner that is a registered and certified mental health professional; and
    o the medical practitioner certifies that the mental illness prevents you from starting or finishing your journey; and
    o the mental illness has first occurred or first manifested during your Period of Insurance.

  8. What is the meaning of 'Pre-existing Medical Condition' in the PDS?

    Pre-existing Medical Condition means any medical or dental condition at any time prior to the purchase of the policy or at any time after your purchase of the policy but prior to your departure date:

    • where investigation, tests, treatment, surgery, medical consultation and/or advice has been obtained (whether or not a formal diagnosis has been made)
    • where drugs or other treatment has been prescribed
    • any chronic or ongoing medical condition
    • any complications arising from such conditions referred to above whether direct or indirect 

    Fast Cover policies automatically cover 43 Pre-Existing Medical Conditions.

  9. What pre-existing medical conditions are covered?

    Travel insurance only provides cover for emergency overseas medical events that are unforeseen.

    The following 43 Pre-existing Medical Conditions are automatically covered, provided that:

    • You have not been hospitalised (including Day Surgery or Emergency Department attendance) for that condition in the past 24 months and
    • Your medications for that condition have remained unchanged for the past 6 months.

     

    1. Acne
    2. Allergies limited to Rhinitis, Chronic Sinusitis, Eczema, Food Intolerance, Hay Fever
    3. Asthma, providing that you:
      • have no other lung disease, and
      • are less than 60 years of age at the date of policy purchase
    4. Bell’s Palsy
    5. Benign Positional Vertigo
    6. Bunions
    7. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    8. Cataracts
    9. Coeliac Disease
    10. Congenital Blindness
    11. Congenital Deafness
    12. *Diabetes Mellitus (Type I), providing you:
      • were diagnosed over 12 months ago, and
      • have no eye, kidney, nerve or vascular complications, and
      • do not also suffer from a known cardiovascular disease, Hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia or Hypercholesterolaemia, and
      • are under 60 years of age at the date of policy purchase
    13. *Diabetes Mellitus (Type II), providing you:
    • were diagnosed over 12 months ago, and
    • have no eye, kidney, nerve or vascular complications, and
    • do not also suffer from a known cardiovascular disease, Hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia or Hypercholesterolaemia 14. Dry Eye Syndrome
    1. Epilepsy, providing there has been no change to your medication regime in the past 12 months, and you are not on more than one anti-convulsant medication
    2. Folate Deficiency
    3. Gastric Reflux
    4. Goitre
    5. Glaucoma
    6. Graves’ Disease
    7. Hiatus Hernia
    8. *Hypercholesterolaemia (High Cholesterol), provided you do not also suffer from a known cardiovascular disease and/or Diabetes
    9. *Hyperlipidaemia (High Blood Lipids), provided you do not also suffer from a known cardiovascular disease and/or Diabetes
    10. *Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), provided you do not also suffer from a known cardiovascular disease and/or Diabetes
    11. Hypothyroidism, including Hashimoto’s Disease
    12. Impaired Glucose Tolerance
    13. Incontinence
    14. Insulin Resistance
    15. Iron Deficiency Anaemia
    16. Macular Degeneration
    17. Meniere’s Disease
    18. Migraine
    19. Nocturnal Cramps
    20. Osteopenia
    21. Osteoporosis
    22. Pernicious Anaemia
    23. Plantar Fasciitis
    24. Raynaud’s Disease
    25. Sleep Apnoea
    26. Solar Keratosis
    27. Trigeminal Neuralgia
    28. Trigger Finger
    29. Vitamin B12 Deficiency

    * Diabetes (Type I and Type II), Hypertension, Hypercholesterolaemia and Hyperlipidaemia are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. If you have history of cardiovascular disease, and it is a Pre-existing Medical Condition, cover for these conditions are also excluded.

    If you have a Pre-existing Medical Condition that is not included in this list of 43 conditions then it is not covered and we will not pay for any claims where your medical history is a contributing factor.

  10. I had Dengue Fever 12 months ago, is that considered a Pre-Existing Medical Condition?

    No, Dengue fever is not considered a Pre-existing medical condition as long as you have fully recovered from it.

    However, if you develop a complication as a result of the Dengue fever, this may be considered as a pre-existing condition, depending on the complication.

  11. What Is A Pre-Existing Medical Condition?

    Pre-existing Medical Condition (or "pre-existing condition") means:

    a) An ongoing medical or dental condition of which you are aware, or related complication you have, or the symptoms of which you are aware;

    b) A medical or dental condition that is currently being, or has been investigated, or treated by a health professional (including dentist or chiropractor) at any time, in the past, before you bought your policy;

    c) Any condition for which you take prescribed medicine;

    d) Any condition for which you have had surgery;

    e) Any condition for which you see a medical specialist; or

    f) Pregnancy.

  12. Am I covered for Depression?

    No, there is no cover for depression or mental illness UNLESS:

    a) the diagnosis for the depression has been made by a medical practitioner that is a registered and certified mental health professional; and

    b) the medical practitioner certifies that the depression prevents you from starting or finishing your journey; and

    c) the depression has first occurred or first manifested during your Period of Insurance.

  13. Am I covered if I've had a heart attack?

    Cover for the heart attack would be excluded from our policies.

    We can still issue a policy for you, but any claims arising from, or related to the pre-existing condition you have described would not be covered.

    Claims unrelated to this condition would be covered as normal as outlined in our Product Disclosure Statement (http://fastcover.com.au/pds).

    If you are taking prescription blood thinners for your heart condition, you are excluded from any medical cover whether or not it is related to your heart attack.

  14. Am I covered if I'm on blood thinners?

    No, you are excluded from any medical cover whether or not it is related to the taking of the blood thinners.

    We can still issue a policy but any claim arising from our related to the pre-exisging condition you have described would not be covered.

    Cover for the underlying condition for which you have the Stent would be excluded from our policies.
