With Fast Cover, you may be able to obtain travel insurance that includes cover for existing medical conditions and COVID-19 related illness under the applicable policy benefits. Depending on the level of cover chose, anyone listed on your policy including dependants can apply to do a medical screening to determine if their existing medical conditions can be included under the policy.*
To find out if we can provide cover for a medical condition or COVID-19, you'll need to keep the following in mind when getting your travel insurance quote:
Any existing medical or pregnancy conditions you or any insured traveller have, or have had, in the 3 years prior to your policy issue date must be declared, and
Any new medical or pregnancy conditions that develop, or changes to your health, after your policy issue date and before you depart on your trip must also be declared, and
For COVID-19 related claims, your cover starts 72 hours from the time your policy was issued.*
If you choose to declare your medical condition/s, all medical or pregnancy conditions must be declared. Each traveller has the choice to declare their medical conditions when applying for a travel insurance quote. If a condition is approved through the medical screening process, it will be listed on your Certificate of Insurance and will then be included under your cover. Any relevant medical or pregnancy condition that is not declared or not listed on your Certificate of Insurance will not be covered.*
If you have declared a medical condition and your health changes after purchasing your policy but before you travel, you will need to contact Fast Cover for a medical re-screening. This process may adjust your premium and will determine whether your condition can continue to be included in your cover.*
Please keep in mind that some existing medical conditions may require you to pay an additional cost for them to be included under your cover. You have the choice to either pay for this additional cost or not. If you choose to pay, the condition will be added to your policy and will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance. If you choose not to pay, that condition will not be covered.

If you’re diagnosed with COVID-19, you may need to cancel or rearrange your travel plans. This could mean losing deposits or paying additional costs to reschedule flights and accommodation.
Consider whether your travel insurance can provide cover for cancellation or rearrangement expenses if you or someone listed on your policy is diagnosed before departure.
If you contract COVID-19 during your trip, you may need to delay your return home or change your travel plans. This can lead to unexpected accommodation and transport costs.
Consider whether your policy can provide cover for additional expenses if your trip is disrupted due to COVID-19 while you’re travelling.
Medical treatment overseas can be expensive, especially if hospital care or evacuation is required.

Consider whether your policy can provide cover for additional accommodation and travel expenses in these situations.

Consider whether your travel insurance can provide cover for cancellation, disruption or rescheduling costs in these circumstances.
If you’re travelling with dependants and become unwell with COVID-19, you may not be able to care for them as planned.
Consider whether your policy can provide cover for reasonable additional childcare costs if you’re unable to care for your dependants during your trip.

What is the best Australian travel insurance for covid?
When travellers search for the best travel insurance for covid, the truth is there might be no single policy that suits everyone. The “best” option depends on your travel plans, where you’re going, your health, who you’re travelling with, and how comfortable you are with potential COVID-19 disruptions. The right COVID-19 travel insurance is the one that matches your trip and helps you understand what you may be covered for if COVID-19 affects your travel.
Here are some important factors to consider when comparing options and deciding what level of cover is right for your trip:
Not all travel insurance policies provide the same level of cover for COVID-19. The right level of cover depends on your trip, your destination, and how much financial protection you want if COVID-19 disrupts your travel.
At Fast Cover, COVID-19 cover is included across most policies as standard. Some policies may include cover for:
COVID-19 Overseas Emergency Medical, Hospital and Medical Evacuation Expenses, and
COVID-19 Trip Cancellation and Disruption.
If you're comparing options, start by looking at whether a policy includes these benefits and what the benefit limits are. Understanding the range of cover available will help you decide which policy is the most suitable option for your trip.
What if you test positive for COVID-19 while overseas and need medical attention? Medical costs overseas can be significantly higher than at home, and even a short hospital stay, or period of isolation can become expensive.
Some of Fast Cover's eligible policies include unlimited overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses if you're diagnosed with COVID-19 during your trip. This includes emergency medical evacuation and repatriation if you need to be transported to another location or returned to Australia under medical supervision. Please note benefit limits apply for funeral or cremation and/or bringing your remains back to Australia and repatriation of your mortal remains from a Schengen listed country back to Australia.
When comparing policies, consider how COVID-19 medical cover applies to your destination and the types of medical situations that could arise. This can help you decide whether the level of medical cover on offer is right for your trip.
If you test positive for COVID-19 before your trip and can't travel, the costs can add up quickly, especially if you've already paid for flights, accommodation or tours that aren't refundable. COVID-19 trip cancellation cover may help reimburse you for eligible non-refundable expenses if you have to cancel due to a covered COVID-19 event.
Under Fast Cover's eligible policies, COVID-19 cancellation cover applies if:
you test positive and can't meet a cross-border entry requirement,
a doctor certifies you are medically unfit to travel due to COVID-19, or
a close relative in Australia is unexpectedly hospitalised or passes away from COVID-19.
When reviewing policies, check the maximum COVID-19 cancellation benefit limit and which COVID-19 events qualify for reimbursement. This makes it easier to compare policies and find one that aligns with your travel commitments. Note that your policy must have been purchased at least 72 hours before any COVID-19 diagnosis for cancellation cover to apply.*
Existing medical conditions can sometimes make it harder to find travel insurance, but they don't have to stop you from travelling. If you have an existing medical condition alongside concerns about COVID-19, it's worth checking whether your policy can cover both.
Fast Cover's travel insurance is available to provide cover for a range of existing medical conditions. Simply complete a medical screening online or over the phone to determine if cover is available for your condition. Your declared existing medical condition will be listed on your certificate of insurance whether coverage for the conditions have been approved or not.*
When comparing policies for COVID-19, also check whether the policy can accommodate any existing medical conditions you or your fellow travellers have, so you're not caught out on either front.
COVID-19 can disrupt a trip in ways that go beyond getting sick, from being directed to isolate in a hotel to being prevented from boarding a flight because you've tested positive. If these situations arise, out-of-pocket costs can add up quickly.
Fast Cover's eligible policies include cover for additional accommodation and travel expenses if you're directed by a government health authority to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19 during your trip. Cover also applies if you're a close contact of someone named on your certificate of insurance who tests positive.
Understanding how a policy responds to COVID-19 disruption can help ensure you're choosing the right cover for your trip. The best travel insurance for COVID-19 is the one that covers the situations that matter most to you, whether that's managing medical costs, recovering non-refundable bookings, or handling unexpected delays.

What is not covered under our travel insurance with covid cover?
It's important to know not just what your travel insurance covers for COVID-19, but also what it doesn't, so you can choose the right policy for your needs. As with all policies, many situations will have terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits that you need to be aware of and consider before buying.
These are examples only. Read the PDS and TMD before buying. Claims are assessed individually in accordance with your policy, PDS and Certificate of Insurance.
There is no cover if you test positive for COVID-19 or are diagnosed with COVID-19 within 17 hours of purchasing your policy. This applies to both the COVID-19 Overseas Emergency Medical, Hospital and Medical Evacuation Expenses benefit and the COVID-19 Trip Cancellation and Disruption benefit.
Claims related to border closures, lockdowns, lockouts or other travel restrictions whether in Australia or overseas may not be covered.
There is no cover if you are deemed as a close contact of someone not named on your certificate of insurance who tests positive for COVID-19 and this disrupts your trip. This includes, if a friend or colleague you're travelling not named on your certificate of insurance tests positive for COVID-19.
The cost of COVID-19 tests is not covered, unless the test is undertaken as part of your hospitalisation in a country listed on your certificate of insurance.
There is no cover for claims arising from being denied boarding because you do not meet a COVID-19 vaccination requirement set by an airline, shipping line or other carrier.
There is no cover if you or a travelling companion decide not to travel or cut your trip short because of general concerns about COVID-19, a change in government travel advice, or an increase in COVID-19 case numbers in your destination.
There are exclusions that may apply for regular or routine check-ups or filling regular prescriptions as they are not considered medical emergencies. If you require regular medication, bring enough of what you’ll need for your trip overseas before you leave Australia.
Should the Australian Government release a warning on official government Smartraveller website that certain areas overseas are no longer safe to travel to and you still choose to travel there anyway, there may be exclusions that apply such as if you do not follow advice in the mass media where a travel advisory risk rating of Do Not Travel was issued after policy purchase.
Note: We are unable to offer travel insurance to international destinations that have a Do Not Travel warning on official government Smartraveller website. To check which countries we may cover, enter your destination country in the quote box on our website. If a country you enter in our quote box is currently a Do not Travel, the destination will appear red, and a warning will show stating that we are unable to cover said destination.
Known events are considered serious situations, from natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, to disease outbreaks, which can affect your holiday plans and also the cover on your overseas travel insurance policy.
If you buy your travel insurance with covid cover after an event is deemed a known event, the cover on your policy may be affected. You should check for any Travel Alerts that may have been issued for your overseas travel destination as well as information on the official government Smartraveller website so you know where you stand with regards to the cover that you will have on your international travel insurance policy.
As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case by case basis and in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms and Certificate of Insurance.
