Got a Question?

Whether you need insurance is a decision for yourself and should certainly be considered for anyone who cannot predict the future. It is designed to provide cover for unexpected and unforeseen circumstances such as stolen luggage or medical emergencies which you have no way of knowing if they will or won't happen.

For more information, refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Travel insurance is designed to cover you for unexpected events. Generally speaking, anything that has already happened prior to policy purchase (e.g. an already erupting Bali volcano causes flights to be cancelled) or is likely to happen (e.g. going to hospital for an existing medical condition not listed as covered on your policy) are things you cannot claim.

We do note that every traveller's situation is different. In the event of a claim, our friendly claims team will assess each situation on a case by case basis.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

We are flexible when it comes to cancelling your Fast Cover travel insurance policy provided you meet the cancellation terms and conditions of your policy.  The following are some of the key points you need to know about cancelling your travel insurance policy:

You have a 25-day cooling-off period from the purchase date of your policy (as shown in your Certificate of Insurance). During this period, you can cancel your policy and receive a full refund, provided:

  • You have not started your trip,
  • You have not made a claim, or
  • exercised any rights under the policy.

You may cancel the policy simply by contacting us and we will give you a full refund.

Cancellation and Refunds

If you decide to cancel your policy outside of the 25-day cooling-off period, you may be eligible for a partial refund. How much you are refunded if you cancel your policy depends on when you cancel and what type of policy you have, as described below.

If You cancel:

* Special cancellation rules apply if your trip is affected by COVID-19.

COVID-19 Cancellations

If you are unable to start your trip due to a reason related to COVID-19 that is not covered by your policy, you can change your travel dates or cancel your policy at any time for a full refund provided you have not made a claim for some other reason.

Should your circumstances not fit neatly into the scenarios we’ve outlined, you’re welcome to email info@fastcover.com.au or call us on 1300 409 322 to discuss what we may be able to do assist you.

As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case-by-case basis in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms, and Certificate of Insurance.

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.

Excess is the amount that you are required to pay or bear for each claimable event under your policy. The excess on claims depends on the excess you chose at the time that you purchased your policy and will be listed on your Certificate of insurance.

Below is only an example of how an excess might work:

For example, if you selected the $200 Excess for your policy, and you made a claim for medical expenses for $1000, you would get back $800. If you had a NIL excess on your policy, you would get back the full $1000.

Other factors may apply when an excess is applied, for example, the excess is deducted after any depreciation and/or limits have been applied to the claim amount.

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.

A Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) is a document required by the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and contains information designed to help you decide whether to buy the policy and to compare it with other products you may be considering.

This PDS sets out the cover available and the terms and conditions which apply. Please note that any recommendations or opinions in the PDS are of a general nature only and do not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs.

The PDS, together with the Certificate of Insurance and any other document we tell you forms part of your policy, make up your contract.

To download or view a copy of our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), go to: https://fastcover.com.au/pds.

By way of basic overview, cover will not be available for the following unless approved by us:

• For any new medical condition you suffered during the term of your existing policy or change to any medical condition which is listed on your Certificate of insurance as a covered medical condition, or pregnancy condition, if we reasonably determine that you should return to Australia for treatment (based on the information that is available to us at the time) and you do not agree to do so, or;

• For any new medical condition, you suffered during the term of your existing policy or change to any medical condition which is listed on your Certificate of insurance as a covered medical condition, or pregnancy condition, unless:

o You agree to take a further screening process, we agree to provide cover and you pay the additional premium (if applicable), and

o You agree that any ongoing medical treatment/advice, medication, test, investigation and/or related expense beyond the original return date that you or a reasonable person is aware of, will not be covered.

• Where you have not advised us of any circumstances that have given (or may give) rise to a claim under your original policy; or

• Where at the time of extension you are aged 90 years or over.

Where we have agreed to provide cover, we will issue you with a new Certificate of insurance. The period of insurance on your original Certificate of insurance and your new Certificate of insurance cannot exceed a maximum combined period of 24 months.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

If you’ve already left Australia without travel insurance, or if your existing cover has recently expired, you may still be able to buy an Already Overseas policy with Fast Cover, depending on your eligibility.

This type of policy is available under our Standard Saver, Comprehensive, or Snow Sports Plus plans if you’re already overseas at the time you purchase your cover, as long as you meet all of the following requirements:

  • You have been overseas for less than 14 days, or have been insured under a travel insurance policy since you left Australia that is current or has been expired for no more than 14 days; and
  • You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident normally residing in Australia. Individuals on an Australian temporary resident visa including those on a working holiday visa or temporary visitors including those on a tourist visa, are not eligible to purchase this policy after departing Australia; and
  • You hold a valid Australian Medicare card; and
  • You have a home in Australia to which you intend to return; and
  • Your trip ends in Australia; and
  • You are aged 65years and under at the time of purchase; and
  • You declare to us at the time of purchase that you are already overseas; and
  • We agree to issue you a policy and specify your status as an already overseas in the certificate of insurance

Key things to know when buying cover while overseas

  • A 48-hour waiting period applies to all benefits. This means there’s no cover for any event that occurs within the first 48 hours after purchasing your policy.
  • A $500 excess applies for all claims except where benefit excess is already $0.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

You can buy your Travel Insurance up to 12 months before your Departure Date.

Note:

  • For the Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Domestic Plus and Snow Sports Plus policies; the Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit for cancellation fees and lost deposits starts instantly when your policy is issued. It can be best to buy your policy as early as possible to cover you for Trip Cancellation Expenses should the unexpected occur before you start your trip.
  • For the Frequent Traveller Saver policy, the Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit for cancellation fees and lost deposits starts on the date that you specify on your policy.

For more information, refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
