What is Couples Travel Insurance?

Whether you’re exploring the outback with your partner, city-hopping with a friend, or visiting family overseas with your sibling, couples travel insurance lets you both enjoy the same cover while keeping things straightforward. At Fast Cover, for insurance policy purposes, the terms “couples” and “Duo” mean the same thing, but that doesn’t mean the cover is only for romantic couples. Any adult couple can take out a Duo policy as long as you meet our eligibility criteria. Here’s how couples travel insurance works under Fast Cover’s Duo policy:

  • Any two adultsBoth travellers listed on the same Certificate of Insurance must be adults. The Duo policy does not cover dependants.
  • Shared itinerary: You’ll need to be travelling together on the same itinerary for at least 75% of the trip.
  • Same level of cover: Both travellers are insured with the same level of cover under one of our policy types (Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Basics, Snow Sports Plus or Domestic Plus).
  • Individual benefit limits: Each traveller has their own individual benefit limits under the Duo policy, except for the Rental Vehicle Excess benefit, which is shared.

What Does Couples Travel Insurance Cover?

Fast Cover’s Duo policy provides travel insurance for couples and offers a range of benefits that can help couples deal with and take steps to be prepared for many unexpected circumstances during their travels. While the exact level of cover depends on the policy you choose, here are examples of benefits that may be included in a Duo policy.

This is only a summary of some benefits available. Not all benefits apply to all policies, so always review the PDS before deciding to buy.

Trip Cancellation Expenses

Cancelled holidays can be both disappointing and expensive, especially if you have paid for flights, accommodation, or tours. If one or both travellers become unexpectedly ill, injured, or experience another covered event under your Duo policy that forces you to cancel your trip, Fast Cover’s Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit may reimburse the non-refundable costs you’ve already paid. ^

At Fast Cover, you can buy couples travel insurance up to 12 months before your departure date, allowing you to cover pre-paid trip costs even before you book your flights or accommodation

Overseas 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance

With Fast Cover’s couples travel insurance, both travellers have access to our Australian-based Emergency Assistance team, available 24/7. ^

Depending on your situation, Fast Cover’s Emergency Medical Assistance team may be able to assist you during unexpected medical emergencies overseas by:

  • Locating and arranging overseas medical treatment or hospital admission
  • Coordinating approved medical evacuation or repatriation
  • Providing guidance on accessing local medical support services

Overseas Emergency Medical and Hospital Expenses

If one or both travellers become unexpectedly injured or fall ill overseas, medical and hospital bills can quickly add up. Fast Cover’s couples travel insurance may be able to help with overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses in some circumstances covered under your policy. ^

Each traveller listed on the Certificate of Insurance has their own medical benefit limit, ensuring both people have individual cover for eligible emergency medical and hospital expenses. ^

Overseas Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Expenses

If you or your partner experiences a serious medical emergency while travelling, you might need to be medically transported or evacuated to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or even be repatriated back to Australia for treatment with appropriate medical supervision. ^

Our international policies are available to provide couples with cover for the reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses, cost of medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation when these services are approved under your policy. All medical evacuations and repatriations must be arranged and approved by Fast Cover before they take place. ^

Lost, Stolen or Damaged Luggage

When your luggage goes missing or valuable personal items are damaged or stolen overseas, it can cause inconvenience and additional costs. Couples travel insurance may include cover for your luggage and personal items such as jewellery like wedding or engagement rings, laptops, cameras, and phones if they are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged in situations covered under your policy. ^

Benefit limits and sub-limits apply to how much can be claimed for each item, and conditions set out when and how cover applies. For full details, it’s important to read the PDS to understand your entitlements and any exclusions that may apply. ^

Travel Delay Expenses

Travel delays can happen for many reasons, from severe weather to civil protests. If your pre-booked and pre-paid transport is cancelled or delayed due to an event covered by your policy, Fast Cover’s Travel Delay Expenses benefit is available to reimburse you for the reasonable cost of extra meals and accommodation. ^

Our Travel Delay Expenses benefit may be able to provide cover for the reimbursement of reasonable additional meals and accommodation expenses. This has a limit of up to $200 for each of the two adult travellers for each 24-hour period, only if your scheduled transport is delayed for at least 6 hours from the time your transport was scheduled to depart, due to circumstances outside your control. ^

Trip Disruptions Expenses

If your scheduled or connecting transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted, Fast Cover’s Trip Disruption Expenses benefit may cover reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses you incur while you’re still on your trip if the disruption occurs for reasons covered under your policy. ^

This benefit applies to each traveller listed under the Duo policy, as long as expenses are unrecoverable from another source. The event must also have started after your Certificate of Insurance was issued. ^

Optional Extras for Couples Travel Insurance

No two duos are the same and your duo travel insurance shouldn’t be either. Whether you’re planning a new adventure with your bestie, celebrating your engagement on a cruise, or hiring a car for a road trip with your sibling, Fast Cover’s add-ons let you customise your Duo policy to match the way you and your travel buddy explore.

Cover for Riding or Being a Passenger on a Motorcycle, Moped or Scooter Overseas

Cover for Your Rental Vehicle Excess

Road-tripping together is one of the best ways to explore. Whether you’re hiring a small car to explore local towns or renting a campervan for an adventure through New Zealand, rental vehicles are a popular way to travel, but they often come with a high insurance excess if something goes wrong.

If your rental vehicle is in an accident, damaged or stolen during your trip overseas, Fast Cover can, depending on the policy chosen, and on payment of additional premium provide reasonable additional cover of up to $8,000 for the rental vehicle excess component of your rental vehicle insurance with your car hire company overseas.^

The rental vehicle excess benefit applies to a:

  • Sedan, hatchback, or station wagon,
  • Four-wheel drive or minibus/people mover, or
  • Campervan or motorhome (up to 4.5 tonnes),

rented from a licensed motor vehicle rental company (including vehicles rented from peer-to-peer carsharing platforms). ^

Please note this benefit limit is shared between both people listed on the Certificate of Insurance. For more details visit our page on rental vehicle excess cover and read our PDS for terms and conditions of cover for rental vehicle excess.

Specified High Value Items

Are you and your partner travelling with high value items and worried they will get lost, stolen or damaged?

If you would like to cover your valuable items for more than what they’re covered for under the standard luggage and personal effects terms and conditions, you can choose to specify them as a specified high value item for an additional premium. ^

Below are some examples of items you may be able to specify as high value items, they will be specifically listed on your certificate of insurance to confirm cover.

  • phone,
  • camera,
  • or laptop.

If you need a higher level of cover, or if you wish to add cover for your high value items, you can upgrade your policy to increase your benefit limits. Limits, sub-limits, and conditions apply to how much you can claim and when cover is provided. ^

For more details visit our page on travel insurance for luggage and personal effects and read our PDS on terms and conditions of cover for luggage and personal effects.

Cover for Snow Sports

Pairing a winter holiday with snow sports together? Unexpected events at the snow can snowball into costly expenses.

If you’re planning to ski or snowboard overseas, answer yes to ‘Skiing and Snowboarding’ during your quote application. This may give you the option to purchase a “Snow Sports Plus Policy” which can provide cover for costs associated with ski and snow sports. ^

Below are some examples of things that may be covered in your snow sports benefits:

  • loss or theft of, or accidental damage to snow sports equipment,
  • for hiring replacement snow sports equipment that is necessary to continue with your original itinerary if snow sports equipment owned by you has been misdirected or delayed for a period of more than 24-hours, or has been accidentally damaged, lost or stolen during your trip,
  • if you are injured or become sick during your trip and are unable to utilise the full duration of your pre-booked and pre-paid lift passes, snow sports equipment hire, or lessons, we will reimburse you the percentage amount of the unused portion for each insured person, and
  • the cost of transport and lift passes at an alternate ski resort,

in conditions and circumstances covered under your policy and as per limits and sub limits set out in our PDS. ^

The Snow Sports Plus policy is available at an additional premium for Aussie travellers aged 69 and under at the date of policy issue, when they purchase an international travel insurance policy. ^

For more details visit our page on travel insurance for skiing and snowboarding and read ourPDS for terms and conditions of cover for Snow Sports.

Cruise Cover

If your travel plans include a cruise, you can choose to add cruise cover to your Family travel insurance policy for additional cover in case of unexpected emergencies on board the ship or during on shore excursions where no support or reimbursement is provided by the cruise company. ^

If you are travelling on a cruise ship and wish to be covered for it, you must specify cruise cover at the time of purchase based on your destination and length of cruise:

  • If you are travelling within Australian waters, the New Zealand or the South Pacific region for 1night or more, you must specify cruise cover at the time of purchase
  • If you are travelling on a cruise within Asia, Europe or Worldwide regions for 4 nights or more, you must specify cruise cover at the time of purchase.

By adding this option, your existing Family travel insurance benefits will extend to when you’re on a cruise, whether it’s a domestic or international voyage. Adding cruise cover to your policy allows you to have cover both on board and on land, helping you stay covered throughout your entire trip. ^

For more details, visit our page on travel insurance for cruises and read our PDS for terms and conditions of cover for travelling on cruise ships.

Who Can Buy Couples Travel Insurance?

Fast Cover’s Duo travel insurance is designed for two travellers who’ll be sharing most of their trip together. If you’re travelling together on the same itinerary for at least 75% of the trip, you may be eligible to take out a Duo policy, keeping things simple with one policy for two people including.

  • Friends travelling overseas together
  • Fiancés enjoying their engagement
  • Married couple celebrating their anniversary
  • Newlyweds enjoying a romantic honeymoon
  • Adventure buddies heading on a ski trip
  • Senior couple enjoying retirement on a cruise
  • Siblings on a family visit or group tour
  • Cousins attending a destination wedding
  • Expecting couple travelling for a babymoon
  • Colleagues travelling for work or conferences

A Duo policy with couples travel insurance can apply to any two travellers who meet the eligibility criteria, not just those in a romantic relationship. It’s an inclusive way for Aussies to travel together while sharing the simplicity of one easy policy.

Insurance Cover Options for Couples and Duos

At Fast Cover, we offer a range of coverage options for you and your travel partner, whether you’re a couple, relatives, or friends travelling together. The options below are a summary of some of the benefits available across our policies. For full details, including limits, exclusions, and terms, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before you travel.

Comprehensive Travel Insurance

Comprehensive Travel Insurance is considered as Fast Cover's most popular policy option. It provides the highest level of cover amongst our existing products for the widest range of unexpected situations like overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, overseas emergency medical assistance, accidental death and loss of income.

Standard Saver Travel Insurance

The Standard Saver Travel Insurance policy provides many benefits similar to our Comprehensive policy, such as benefits relating to your health as well as many similar benefits with lower limits like trip cancellation, trip disruption and luggage and personal effects when you travel. ^

Basic (Medical Only) Travel Insurance

Our Basics Travel Insurance policy type is a simple way of taking steps to obtain cover for what is considered as one of the most important things in life by many - your health. You can also apply to customise your policy and include cover under the luggage and personal effects benefit up to $2000. ^

More Than One Trip? Consider Multi-Trip Travel Insurance for Frequent Travellers

If you and your spouse or partner travel overseas frequently, you can get a quote for a Frequent Traveller Saver Policy when you take out international travel insurance. We can provide cover for an unlimited number of trips in a 12-month period up to a specified number of days each trip. While two adult travellers can purchase a Frequent Traveller Saver Policy, this cover is not the same as a Duo policy. If you hold a Frequent Traveller Saver policy, the benefit limits apply to the combined total of all claims made by all travellers listed on the Certificate of Insurance. ^

Do I Need Couples Travel Insurance?

Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary getaway, best mates’ road trip, or long-awaited overseas adventure together, travelling as a duo can mean sharing everything - from the experiences, the bookings, and sometimes the setbacks. Even well-planned trips can take an unexpected turn. Here are some situations to consider when deciding if you need travel insurance for duos or couples, and how it can provide cover for some situations on your next trip together:

Lost, Stolen or Damaged Luggage and Personal Effects

Lost, stolen or damaged luggage and personal items may create ongoing hassles for couples travelling together. Replacing your personal items like your engagement ring or wedding ring, laptop, camera, or favourite travel gear can be costly and stressful.

With Fast Cover’s Luggage and Personal Effects benefit, cover is available to protect against loss, theft, or accidental damage to your luggage and personal belongings on your couple’s trip. Please take special note of the limits and sub-limits in the PDS for this benefit as the total replacement cost might not be available.

Travel Insurance for Engagement Rings & Wedding Rings

Losing or damaging your engagement ring or wedding ring on your trip could be devastating, especially on a special trip to celebrate your honeymoon, engagement or anniversary. Consider if your policy provides travel insurance for engagement rings or wedding rings.

Fast Cover’s Luggage and Personal Effects benefit can provide travel insurance for your engagement ring or wedding ring, with cover of up to $750 per item, depending on your chosen policy. ^

Non-Refundable Expenses from Cancelling Your Trip

Most trips for two involve paying deposits or upfront costs for flights, hotels, or shared tours. If one of you becomes unexpectedly ill or injured and you have to cancel, both travellers could lose significant amounts of money, especially when everything’s booked together.

Consider if your couples travel insurance policy can provide trip cancellation cover, helping to reimburse non-refundable prepaid costs so you and your partner or travel buddy don’t have to absorb the financial loss yourselves.

Travelling with an Existing Medical Condition

If you or your travelling partner need to cancel your trip due to an existing medical condition, you could be left out of pocket for non-refundable pre-paid trip bookings. You may wish to check if your couples travel insurance policy can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to your existing medical condition/s.

With Fast Cover, you can apply for cover for existing medical conditions through a medical screening. In some cases, there may be an additional cost if you want your condition covered under your policy. ^

Getting to your Special Event on Time

Many duos plan travel around special events from destination weddings, conferences, concerts, cruises or tour packages.

If your scheduled transport to special events is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted, you might need to spend thousands of dollars on additional transport to make it to your special events on time. Or you might miss out on special events you’ve already booked and paid for.

Consider if your couples travel insurance can provide cover for special event transport expenses. Fast Cover’s couples travel insurance includes Special Event Transport Expenses cover, which may help with reasonable additional travel costs to get you there on time.^

If Your Trip is Delayed or Disrupted

Unexpected events like severe weather, and natural disasters could delay or disrupt your couple’s trip and mean you might have to spend extra money on food and accommodation while you wait for a new flight. Consider if your couples travel insurance can provide cover for travel delay expenses such as reasonable costs of additional meals and accommodation up to limits as specified in the PDS.

Before you decide whether you need couples travel insurance for your next trip, you should read the PDS to check what our policies will and won’t cover you for, any conditions and exclusions that might apply to you and whether the policy provides the cover that you’re looking for. Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation or needs.

What is the Best Duo and Couples Travel Insurance?

The best couples travel insurance is the one that fits you individually, your plans, your destination, and how you like to travel. To get the best couples travel insurance for Aussies travelling together, it’s important to consider a policy that aligns with your specific travel needs. This might include the nature of your trip, the types of activities you plan to do and other considerations that apply to you, your partner and your trip. Here are some important factors to consider when comparing travel insurance options for duos and deciding which couples travel insurance is the best for you and your partner.

Consider the Levels of Cover You Need

When buying couples travel insurance, the best policy might not necessarily the most expensive, you might consider the best policy to be the one that gives you and your partner the level of cover that matches your trip and personal requirements.

If you’re comparing options, start by looking at what the policy includes, from emergency medical expenses and cancellation benefits to luggage and disruption cover and more. Understanding the range and limit of benefits will help you decide which policy is the most suitable option for your duos trip.

Fast Cover strives to give you the flexibility to choose from a range of cover levels, so you can find the right balance between price and benefits. Whether you’re planning an overseas honeymoon, a ski trip with a friend, or a local weekend getaway, you can select the policy that fits your plans and your budget.

Consider the Activities You’ll Be Doing

Are you and your travel partner planning to do any adventurous activities on your trip? You may wish to check whether your policy provides cover for the types of adventures and activities you plan to do.

Cover for adventure activities may require an additional optional benefit to be added and may incur an additional premium and may have different age limits to standard terms.

When comparing travel insurance policies for couples, check whether the policy allows you to add optional cover for the types of activities and adventure you both plan to do.

Fast Cover allows you to customise your Duo policy with optional extras for an additional premium to provide cover for a wide range of activities and adventures for you and your partner. ^

Consider the Risk of Natural Disasters or Unexpected Events

Natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions can disrupt travel plans with little notice, leaving couples stranded, trips rerouted, or couples facing sudden expenses for new flights and accommodation.

Understanding how a policy responds to these situations can help ensure you’re choosing the right duo travel insurance. For example, Fast Cover’s Duo policy may help with reasonable additional costs, such as alternative accommodation and transport, when your trip is interrupted due to a covered event such as a natural disaster. ^

Consider How a Shared Policy Works

It's worth checking the benefit limits on a couples travel insurance policy to understand how a shared policy works so you can make sure both of you have the right level of cover for your trip.

At Fast Cover, even though our Duo policy is one policy, both travellers have their own benefit limits (except for Rental Vehicle Excess Benefit) under the Certificate of Insurance. This means that if one person’s trip is disrupted, their luggage is lost, or they need emergency medical treatment overseas, they can make a claim for their part of the trip without affecting the other traveller’s benefit limits. ^

Consider Your Travel Dates and Destinations

Some travel insurance policies offer cover for extended or multi-destination travel, so you’re covered under a single policy for the duration of your journey.

With Fast Cover, you can include multiple destinations under your Duo policy for up to 24 months, allowing you to move between countries without buying separate policies. Reviewing how long your cover lasts and how it applies across destinations helps ensure your insurance matches the full length and scope of your trip.

When comparing options, check how long your cover lasts, whether it includes all your destinations, and whether you can extend it mid-trip if your plans change.

These are just some of the considerations that you might wish to take into account when reviewing the best couples travel insurance, so you know what cover is available to you before and during your trip and under what conditions.

Before you decide on the best couples travel insurance for your trip, you should read the PDS to check what the policy will and won’t cover you for, any conditions and exclusions that might apply to you and whether the policy provides the cover that you’re looking for. Any advice is general advice only and does not take into account your individual objectives, financial situation or needs.

At Fast Cover you can take out a Duo policy with different levels of cover, providing access to different benefits designed to suit your travel style, helping you prepare for and manage unexpected medical or financial events while you and your partner are travelling. Compare our travel insurance policies and benefits below.

The table below is only a summary of benefits. Each level of cover is subject to full policy terms, conditions, limits, sub-limits, and exclusions as per our PDS available on our website. Benefit limits shown apply per person for both Singles and Duo policies. # These benefit limits are shared between Duo policy holders. ~ These benefit limits are shared between travellers under a Family policy. This means the benefit amount is for the whole family to be used together, not for each person separately. ^ Cover under these benefits are excluded while travelling within Australia. If you hold a Frequent Traveller Saver policy, the benefit limits apply to the combined total of all claims made by all covered travellers (including an accompanying spouse/partner and dependants) listed on the Certificate of Insurance.

What is Not Covered in our Couples Travel Insurance?

When comparing travel insurance, it’s just as important to know what isn’t covered as it is to know what is. Like all insurance products, Fast Cover’s Duo policy has terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits that apply that you need to be aware of and consider before buying travel insurance.

Below are some examples of when cover may not be available. Always check the PDS and TMD to understand the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits before making your decision to buy.

If you become injured while breaking the law

If you’re injured while breaking the law overseas, your Duo policy is unlikely to cover the incident. This may include scenarios such as riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet, driving without the proper licence, or operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Local laws vary significantly between countries and what may be legal in Australia could be prohibited elsewhere. For example, in some destinations, even riding a scooter without the correct international licence could leave you without cover if an accident occurs. Engaging in illegal drug use or carrying prohibited substances could also result in both criminal charges overseas and the denial of any related insurance claim.

Since laws differ across countries, you should always check local regulations before you travel.

If you are intoxicated or have taken illicit drugs or prohibited substances

Whilst it may not be illegal to have a drink overseas, alcohol consumption laws vary from country to country, and between regions within some countries. Make sure to research your travel destinations and follow the local laws.

Keep in mind that if you’ve drunk alcohol excessively, there are certain exclusions that may likely apply to your travel insurance policy. As an example, if you’re under the influence of alcohol and you stumble and hurt yourself, you may not have cover under your Duo policy.

Certain drugs are illegal in some countries, and you may not be covered by your international travel insurance policy when you’ve consumed drugs or have been involved in drug related activities.

If you do an activity that isn’t covered by your policy

If you’re injured in an accident while, for example, riding a motorcycle, and you didn’t add the Motorcycle Pack to your Duo travel insurance policy, you may be responsible for paying your medical and hospital expenses because you did not choose to include cover for that under your policy.

It is important to think about what activities you will be participating in so that you have the right cover for the activities you and your partner plan to do overseas.

Unsupervised belongings

If your belongings are stolen while unattended or unsupervised, you may not be able to claim for the stolen item. For example: If you leave your bag with your wallet and passport inside it on the beach while you go for a swim, this may be considered leaving your belongings unattended, in which case you may not be covered.

Make sure you keep your belongings with you at all times under your direct supervision or keep them in a secure location or take reasonable measures to secure them at all times and at all places.

Regular medical or dental check-ups

There are exclusions that may apply for regular or routine check-ups or filling regular prescriptions as they are not considered medical emergencies. If you require regular medication, bring enough of what you’ll need for your holiday overseas before you leave Australia.

Ignoring official warnings

Should the Australian Government release a warning on official government Smartraveller website that certain areas overseas are no longer safe to travel to and you still choose to travel there anyway, there may be exclusions that will apply; such as if you do not follow advice in the mass media or where a travel advisory risk rating of Do Not Travel was issued on the Smarttraveller website after policy purchase.

Note: We are unable to offer travel insurance to international destinations that have a Do Not Travel warning on official government Smartraveller website. To check which countries we may cover, enter your destination country in the quote box on our website.

Known event

Known events are usually considered as serious situations, from natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, to disease outbreaks, which can affect your holiday plans and also the cover on your overseas travel insurance policy.

If you buy your travel insurance after an event is a known event, the cover on your policy may be affected. You should check for any Travel Alerts that may have been issued for your overseas travel destination as well as information on the official government Smartraveller website so you know where you stand with regards to the cover that you will have on your international travel insurance policy.

Disappointing holidays

Perhaps the weather was bad, the tourist attractions were too crowded, or your accommodation didn’t live up to the pictures online. Whatever the reason you’re unhappy with how your couple's trip has shaped up, your Duo travel insurance policy is not intended to compensate you because you didn’t enjoy your time there.

As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms and Certificate of Insurance.

FAQs about Duo and Couple Travel Insurance

Duo policy can be taken out by two travellers who are travelling together on the same itinerary for at least 75% of the trip who are both listed in the Certificate of Insurance. It doesn’t matter if you live in different states of Australia, what matters is that your departure and return dates line up and you’re travelling together on the same journey.

This type of policy is commonly chosen by couples, relatives, or friends who want to share one policy instead of buying two separate Single policies.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

With a Duo policy, both travellers are normally covered for the same trip dates and itinerary. If one traveller decides to return home while the other wants to stay travelling, a new policy will need to be issued for the extended period of travel.

To arrange this, contact Fast Cover for assistance:

Important things to know about extensions

  • Extensions cannot cover new or changed medical conditions that arise during the original policy, unless approved after further medical screening and payment of any additional premium.
  • Ongoing medical treatment, tests, or related expenses beyond the original return date are generally excluded (see General Exclusion 22(e) in the PDS).
  • You must notify Fast Cover of any circumstances that may give rise to a claim under your original policy.
  • Extensions are not available if you are aged 90 years or over at the time of extension.
  • Where approved, a new Certificate of Insurance will be issued. The original and extended policies combined cannot exceed 24 months in total.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

Whether your partner is covered depends on the type of policy you have:

  • Duo policy: If your partner is listed on the policy, they are covered for the same travel dates, provided you are travelling together for at least 75% of the trip.
  • Frequent Traveller Saver policy: You can choose to add cover for your spouse (and dependants if applicable) by paying an additional premium. To be covered, they must be listed on your policy and travel with you for 100% of each trip.
  • Separate Single policy: If your partner has their own Single policy, or a policy with another provider, the cover depends on the terms shown on their own Certificate of Insurance and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

A Duo policy is designed for two travellers who are going on the same trip. It can be used by a husband and wife, partners, friends, or relatives, as long as both people are listed on the policy and travelling together for at least 75% of the trip.

For couples who want to be covered under the same policy, a Duo option is often chosen instead of taking out two separate Single policies.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

A Duo policy provides cover for two travellers on the same trip. Both travellers must be listed on the policy and travel together for at least 75% of the journey. If the original trip ends early, the policy cannot be split for separate trips. Each person will need to purchase their own policy if they plan to travel independently afterwards.

Every claim is reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis and will only be paid if it meets the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions in your policy. Always check the PDS carefully so you know exactly what’s included before you travel.

When you request a Duo quote, the price shown is for both travellers combined, not per person. The premium is based on various factors such as your destination, trip duration, ages, and the type of cover selected.

This makes Duo policies a way for two travellers on the same itinerary to be covered under one policy, instead of buying two separate Single policies.
