Do I need a visa for travelling to Thailand?
From 15 September 2026, Australians will be eligible for a visa exemption when travelling to Thailand for up to 30 days for tourism. This means Australians can travel to Thailand without a visa for short-term leisure and tourism without a visa for up to 30 days. If you wish to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, you can apply to extend your stay for up to another 30 days with the Immigration Bureau. Up until 14 September 2026, the current 60-day visa exemption rules continue to apply to Australian travellers.
You may need a visa to enter Thailand to visit, study or work, depending on the nature and duration of your trip. As visa and entry requirements for Thailand may change over time, it is your responsibility to verify visa requirements from a Thailand embassy, consulate or the Thai government website. To check if you need a visa for your type and duration of trip, visit the Thai e-Visa official website.
