Do I need travel insurance for skydiving?
Whether you’re skydiving in Cairns, over Queenstown or above the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, unexpected situations and factors outside your control could change your travel plans and leave you with out-of-pocket expenses.
Here are some situations which you might consider when deciding if you need travel insurance for skydiving for your next trip and whether your policy can provide cover for these situations. Every traveller’s individual objectives, financial situation or needs are different, therefore, make sure you consider what your individual needs are and read the PDS before you travel:
Even with a professional safety briefing, a secure tandem harness and a licensed instructor, accidents can happen, and medical treatment overseas can be expensive. Consider if your travel insurance can provide cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses if you’re injured while tandem skydiving.
Many drop zones are in rural or coastal areas, a long way from the nearest hospital. Consider if your policy can provide cover for emergency medical evacuation or repatriation if you’re seriously injured.
Becoming unexpectedly sick or injured could force you to cancel your trip, leaving you with non-refundable flights, accommodation and tours. Consider if your policy can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses.
Skydiving is weather dependent, and severe weather or transport cancellations could disrupt your plans while you’re away. Consider if your policy can provide cover for trip disruption expenses.

What is the best travel insurance for skydiving?
The best travel insurance for tandem skydiving can be considered as a policy that provides cover for the type of trip you’re taking. When comparing travel insurance that covers skydiving, this might include the other activities you plan to do, who you’re travelling with and other situations that apply to you and your trip.
Here are some examples of things you may wish to consider when reviewing the best travel insurance for skydiving for your trip:
Cover is only for tandem skydiving with an instructor licensed for the activity*, so you may wish to check that your jump is a tandem skydive with a licensed operator before you book. Operators also set their own requirements, such as a skydiving age limit and a skydiving weight limit, so it’s worth checking those too. The Adventure Pack has its own age limit: it’s available to travellers aged 74 and under at the date of policy issue.*
Are you planning a tandem skydive, or other adventure activities such as scuba diving or quad biking? You may wish to check whether your policy includes the Adventure Pack, whether the policy can cover all of the activities that you are planning on participating in, or whether your other plans need other optional extras.
Drop zones can be a long way from hospitals. Compare the medical, evacuation and emergency assistance benefits across policies to see which may suit your trip.
Tandem skydiving costs are often paid upfront, along with flights and accommodation. You may wish to consider whether your policy includes trip cancellation cover and whether its limit suits what you’ve paid.

Some activities are included in our standard policies, and others can be covered by adding our Adventure Pack to an eligible Fast Cover policy. Limits, conditions, exclusions apply. For example, you may need to use a licensed operator and follow their instructions. Overseas medical costs can be very expensive, so it’s worth checking before you go."
