Got a Question?

Whether you need insurance is a decision for yourself and should certainly be considered for anyone who cannot predict the future. It is designed to provide cover for unexpected and unforeseen circumstances such as stolen luggage or medical emergencies which you have no way of knowing if they will or won't happen.

For more information, refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Travel insurance is designed to cover you for unexpected events. Generally speaking, anything that has already happened prior to policy purchase (e.g. an already erupting Bali volcano causes flights to be cancelled) or is likely to happen (e.g. going to hospital for an existing medical condition not listed as covered on your policy) are things you cannot claim.

We do note that every traveller's situation is different. In the event of a claim, our friendly claims team will assess each situation on a case by case basis.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

We are flexible when it comes to cancelling your Fast Cover travel insurance policy provided you meet the cancellation terms and conditions of your policy.  The following are some of the key points you need to know about cancelling your travel insurance policy:

You have a 25-day cooling-off period from the purchase date of your policy (as shown in your Certificate of Insurance). During this period, you can cancel your policy and receive a full refund, provided:

  • You have not started your trip,
  • You have not made a claim, or
  • exercised any rights under the policy.

You may cancel the policy simply by contacting us and we will give you a full refund.

Cancellation and Refunds

If you decide to cancel your policy outside of the 25-day cooling-off period, you may be eligible for a partial refund. How much you are refunded if you cancel your policy depends on when you cancel and what type of policy you have, as described below.

If You cancel:

* Special cancellation rules apply if your trip is affected by COVID-19.

COVID-19 Cancellations

If you are unable to start your trip due to a reason related to COVID-19 that is not covered by your policy, you can change your travel dates or cancel your policy at any time for a full refund provided you have not made a claim for some other reason.

Should your circumstances not fit neatly into the scenarios we’ve outlined, you’re welcome to email info@fastcover.com.au or call us on 1300 409 322 to discuss what we may be able to do assist you.

As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case-by-case basis in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms, and Certificate of Insurance.

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.

Excess is the amount that you are required to pay or bear for each claimable event under your policy. The excess on claims depends on the excess you chose at the time that you purchased your policy and will be listed on your Certificate of insurance.

Below is only an example of how an excess might work:

For example, if you selected the $200 Excess for your policy, and you made a claim for medical expenses for $1000, you would get back $800. If you had a NIL excess on your policy, you would get back the full $1000.

Other factors may apply when an excess is applied, for example, the excess is deducted after any depreciation and/or limits have been applied to the claim amount.

Eligibility criteria, policy terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply. Consider the PDS prior to deciding on which policy is right for you and your needs.

A Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) is a document required by the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and contains information designed to help you decide whether to buy the policy and to compare it with other products you may be considering.

This PDS sets out the cover available and the terms and conditions which apply. Please note that any recommendations or opinions in the PDS are of a general nature only and do not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs.

The PDS, together with the Certificate of Insurance and any other document we tell you forms part of your policy, make up your contract.

To download or view a copy of our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), go to: https://fastcover.com.au/pds.

The following is general advice only and does not take into account your individual needs, objectives or financial situation. Consider the PDS prior to deciding whether this policy is appropriate for you and your trip.

Our travel insurance can provide cover for many medical conditions.

You can complete a medical screening for:

  1. Your existing medical conditions that you have or have had, for the 3 years prior to your policy purchase date,
  2. Any changes to your existing medical conditions which we have agreed to cover, after you buy your policy and before you leave for your trip,
  3. New medical conditions you develop after you buy your policy and before you leave for your trip.

If we agree to provide you with cover for your medical conditions following your medical screening, an additional premium will apply.

Unless the medical condition is ongoing, that is, meets any of the criteria for a medical condition as listed below, such as it continues to require ongoing prescription medication etc., you do not need to complete a medical screening for the condition that you had more than 3 years prior to policy purchase.

IMPORTANT:

If you have had a medical or pregnancy condition within the 3 years prior to your policy purchase date, and you have not completed a medical screening for those conditions, or you have not notified us of a change in health or new medical condition as mentioned above, there is no cover for any claims under the policy arising from any of those medical or pregnancy conditions. You should also be aware of the General Exclusions that apply to all benefits, in particular General Exclusion 20 and 22 of the PDS.

What is a medical condition?

We consider a medical condition to be any bodily or physical injury, physical defect, illness, disease or other medical or dental condition or sign or symptom of these things, which you and anyone listed on your policy (including dependants travelling with you):

  • required prescription medication for or has been prescribed medication from a medical practitioner in writing for,
  • soughtor received medical advice from a medical practitioner or other health care professional for,
  • had tests, investigations, care, treatmentor medical attention including surgery for,
  • been admitted to hospital for (including emergency department or day surgery procedure), or
  • became aware of or which a reasonable person in the circumstances would have been aware of.

It includes but is not limited to:

  • the suffering or treatment of mental illness,
  • a brain, heart (such as any cardiovascular or coronary heart disease or any condition related to a heart or blood vessels), kidney, liver, respiratory, circulatory (such as high blood pressure, stroke, or transient ischaemic attack), cancer or cancerous condition,
  • reduced or deficient immune system,
  • a sign or symptom of the above matters, or
  • a persistent and lasting health condition such as constant pain or long-suffering pain or pain with a pattern of relapse and remission.

What is a pregnancy condition?

We don’t consider pregnancy to be a medical condition, however, you do need to complete a medical screening if you are pregnant and you have a pregnancy condition, as listed below:

  • You are experiencing complications with the pregnancy (see our Complications of Pregnancy and Childbirth table in PDS for further details on what we consider a Complication of Pregnancy and Childbirth), or
  • You experienced complications with any previouspregnancy (see our Complications of Pregnancy and Childbirth table in PDS for further details on what we consider a Complication of Pregnancy and Childbirth), or
  • You are having multiple children (e.g. twins, triplets or more), or
  • Your conception was medically assisted(e.g. hormone therapy or IVF).

If any of the above applies to you, you will need to complete a medical screening so that we can assess whether or not we can provide you with cover for your medical condition.

Check out our Medical Conditions page for more information about medical screening for your existing medical and pregnancy conditions including information about the General Exclusions that may apply.

Please refer to our Product Disclosure Statement for eligibility criteria, and policy terms, conditions, exclusions and limits that apply.

Yes, if you are an Australian resident and left Australia without travel insurance, or if your travel insurance policy (even if issued by another insurer and includes credit card travel insurance) has expired, we may be able to help.

You can purchase our Standard Saver, Comprehensive and Snow Sport Plus policies if you are already overseas, provided you meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You have
    1. been overseas for less than 14 days, or
    2. have been insured under a travel insurance policy since you left Australia that has been expired for no more than 14 days; and
  2. You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident normally residing in Australia, and
  3. You hold a valid Australian Medicare card; and
  4. You have a home in Australia to which you intend to return; and
  5. Your trip ends in Australia; and
  6. You are aged 65 years and under at time of purchase; and
  7. You declare to us at the time of purchase that you are already overseas; and
  8. We agree to issue you a policy and specify your status as already overseas in the Certificate

    of Insurance.

Policies purchased while you are already overseas are subject to:

  • A 48 hour no cover period, which starts from the time your policy payment is processed and applies to all benefits. This means that there is no cover under any section of the policy for any event that arises within the first 48 hours of purchasing your policy, and hence your policy start date cannot start on the day that you purchase your policy.
  • A $500 excess for all claims except where the Benefit Excess is already $0. It is NOT possible to reduce the $500 excess.
  • The other applicable policy terms, conditions, exclusions and limits of cover described in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What is the age limit for already overseas policies?

To be eligible for an already overseas policy, you need to be aged 65 or younger at the time you buy your policy.

How long can I travel for on an already overseas policy?

The maximum amount of time you can purchase an already overseas policy is 24 months.

You would need to firstly take out a policy for the initial 12 months of your trip, and then extend your policy for another 12 months once your policy starts.

Does the already overseas policy have COVID-19 cover?

The already overseas policy includes the following cover for COVID-19:

  • Unlimited COVID-19 overseas emergency medical, hospital and medical evacuation expenses.
  • Trip cancellation and disruption due to COVID-19 up to limits as per the policy selected,

Can you get an already overseas policy if I have health insurance from an overseas company?

No, a local health policy does not quality as a travel insurance policy, and hence does not satisfy the requirements for purchasing an already overseas policy.

Note:

  • Only select policies are available to be purchased if you are already overseas
  • Temporary visitors (i.e. on a tourist visa) or individuals on an Australian temporary residence visa including those on a working holiday visa are not eligible to purchase this policy after departing Australia.

Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Please note: any advice is general advice only and has not taken into account your individual objectives, financial situation or needs. Consider the PDS prior to deciding whether this policy is right for you.

You can buy your Travel Insurance up to 12 months before your Departure Date.

Note:

  • For the Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Domestic Plus and Snow Sports Plus policies; the Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit for cancellation fees and lost deposits starts instantly when your policy is issued. It can be best to buy your policy as early as possible to cover you for Trip Cancellation Expenses should the unexpected occur before you start your trip.
  • For the Frequent Traveller Saver policy, the Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit for cancellation fees and lost deposits starts on the date that you specify on your policy.

For more information, refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
