Update: Nepal Earthquake, April 2015

29 April 2015: Many of the thousands of people who were travelling in Nepal during the earthquake on 25 April 2015 are insured by worldwide assistance company Allianz Global Assistance, or a partner travel insurance brand.

In order to care for families and tourists currently in Nepal, Allianz Global Assistance immediately set up a crisis unit to identify customers on site and gather all the information needed to provide them with the help they need.

As the situation is constantly changing Allianz Global Assistance recommends all customers in Nepal call 00617 3305 7499 and press 1 for Medical Assistance.

To ensure 24 hour support, two dedicated assistance units have been activated in Paris and Brisbane (Australia), and will coordinate with relay each other around the clock. In cooperation with the local and French authorities, a medical team has departed and will be supported locally by a Nepalese correspondent to provide help to tourists in distress, as well as support local assistance teams.

John Myler, CEO of Allianz Global Assistance Australia says “We can confirm we are in contact and assisting our customers in Nepal who are insured with Allianz Global Assistance Australia.

We are sending two highly trained Australian nurses to Kathmandu today to assist with efforts to care for the injured on the ground and support our customers to get back to Australia. They will meet the other Allianz Global Assistance doctors and nurses that are coming from around the world to assist with the relief effort”.

Allianz Global Assistance expresses its deepest sympathy to the Nepalese people and its customers affected by the earthquake.
